Our Programs & History

Door to Door No Car, No Problem!

Door to Door No Car, No Problem!

Door to Door No Car, No Problem!

IslandRides provides free or low-cost service to islanders without a car or who do not drive. This includes seniors, people with disabilities and others in need. The donation or free fares are subsidized by United Way of San Juan County, SJI Community Foundation, Orcas Island Community Foundation, Lopez Island Family Resource Center, local businesses and individual donors.

Door to Door No Car, No Problem!

IslandRides extended its coverage to Lopez Island with a donated EV in the fall of 2020.  Support from Senior Services, Lopez Lions and Lopez Island Family Resource Center established, parking and charging facilities.  The eco-friendly Nissan Leaf is also budget friendly, as there are no fuel costs and less maintenance.

JOIN OUR DRIVING TEAM

In June of 2021, IslandRides was provided with a lightly-used blue Leaf on Orcas Island and began deliveries of food to people at home as well as daily ride service.  Staging and charging facilities are now at the Orcas Island Community Foundation offices.  Volunteer drivers are being actively recruited and trained to operate the newest, no emissions electric cars serving our neighbors on three islands.

Financial Reporting

The San Juan Islands Shuttle System is dedicated to fiscal responsibility, transparency and the careful management of assets. Funds are administered to support our mission while balancing short and long term needs. If a 990 shows negative income, it is due to the timing of grant reimbursements as we operate on a cash accounting basis.
